Range - occurs in arid, rocky areas, and in kopjes - isolated, rocky outcroppings - between southern Kenya and northern Tanzania.
Natural History - this tortoise is an excellent climber; it inhabits narrow rocky cracks and crevices. The flat body, long and powerful limbs, and high energy allow this tortoise to move quickly. It has a natural aversion to sun and heat.
